Library
The Bishop Allen Academy Library is a thriving and active place in the life of the school. One of the goals is to teach students to find and use information from a wide variety of sources – print, nonprint and electronic. The BAA Library seeks to provide, organize and disseminate resources which support the school curriculum and student interests.
An important element of our mission is to encourage the enjoyment of books, learning and reading. Our first event is Allen Reads: A year-long conversation about books that matter. Please come to the library for details. The “Festival of the Word”, which is held in the spring, is a celebration of the written and spoken word and involves numerous guest speakers, and performances by various artists. The Festival provides our students with the opportunity to interact with published authors, journalists and performance artists. Inevitably, the students come away from this experience with a renewed appreciation for language and literature in all its forms.
ALLEN READS:
One book is chosen for each month leading up to April. At the end of each month participants gather to discuss the merits of the book. One person is chosen to defend the book at the final showdown which will be held during the Festival of the Word in April. One book will emerge as the book for the BAA community to read this school year. Participation is open to all members—staff and students— of the BAA community. Please see Mr. Walker or Ms. Sedej to join.
Communicate with students and teachers via our blog.
