Academics – French Department
Bishop Allen offers three programs in French: Core, Extended
and Immersion. All students are required to take a French course
in Grade 9 in order to complete the requirements of the OSSD.
The Core French courses are offered at the academic as well
as the applied level. The Extended and Immersion programs offer
courses only at the academic level.
Our program provides many opportunities for students to improve
their fluency and enrich their experiences of language and culture.
To be able to work and function in Canada's other official language
has many rewards:
- an enhanced profile when applying for scholarships
- added advantage in an a very competitive world of work
- increased portability in an increasingly globalized society
We are strong supporters of authentic language experiences
and we offer trips to St. Donat, Québec and to France to complement
the language experience of the classroom.
Universtiy of Ottawa Video Contest Winners
Recently, two of our French Immersion classes participated
in the University of Ottawa French Immersion Video Contest,
they were very successful. The Grade 11 class went home with
1st place and the grade 12's with 3rd. Take a look at our
