Academics – English Department
Every Bishop Allen Student is an English student. Our English
Department offers students an enriching program with opportunities
and activities that help bring the texts being studied in the
classroom to life and that help students develop their literacy
skills. As an enhancement of day to day classroom activities,
English students are also given the opportunity to attend dramatic
productions of the plays studied in the courses.
English students also have the chance to meet professionals
from the worlds of media and literature. In past years, the
Writer’s Craft classes have hosted authors who share
their experiences in the publishing industry through the Students
Writers and Teachers
Program. Media classes welcome speakers from the advertising,
film and television industry.
Literacy preparation encompasses all subject areas. In order
to help our Gr.10 students prepare for the literacy test,
we provide them with an intensive study of all areas of reading
and writing. We begin this analysis and practise in Gr.9 and
we continue with an intensive preparation program in Gr.10.
Beyond our regular program, Bishop Allen is proud to be able
to offer our students an Advanced Placement pathway. AP English
classes allow our students to enrich the breadth of their
knowledge and experience, and they also have the opportunity
to earn university credit.
